Visiting Nurse Home & Hospice is very grateful for charitable donations and grants. As an agency committed to serving everyone, we depend on philanthropy and charitable contributions to maintain our ability to offer service to anyone in Newport and Bristol Counties, regardless of ability to pay.

You may want to consider these different areas of charitable giving:

Amazon Smile:
Look at the bottom of this page for the Amazon Smile logo and click. This program, the charitable donations arm of, invites anyone to sign up on Amazon Smile to have their selected charity, Visiting Nurse Home & Hospice, receive an automatic .5% donation from Amazon on the price of any eligible purchase….a win/win that costs the customer nothing and benefits Visiting Nurse Home & Hospice. Most items are eligible for Amazon Smile donations…the site will prompt you after you have signed up on Smile. Annual Fund:
Thanks to you, patients like an 89 year old widower living alone can have Lifeline. Thanks to you, a 55 year old wife and mother is able to stay in her home for her last few months of terminal cancer and be surrounded by her teenage children and family. Thanks to you, a vibrant 70 year old can look forward to returning to long afternoon walks due to his diligent post-stroke rehabilitation and therapy.

Stories such as these are possible because your support to our Annual Fund allows us to offer top quality homecare to everyone in our communities, regardless of ability to pay. Visiting Nurse Home & Hospice relies on its Annual Fund to carry the bulk of our fundraising. As the majority of our unrestricted charitable money comes from individuals, we have traditionally sent a holiday greeting card which does double duty as our year-end appeal request. This year we decided to combine our year-end appeal into the Housecalls newsletter, as it is full of donor news and articles that confirm the quality of our work and reasons why we ask for your charitable support. You can send in the Housecalls envelope, or better yet, donate here for a safe, secure on-line gift.

Memorial Donations:
Frequently a memorial donation to the VNS is directed by a grateful family at the time of the death of a beloved family member. This memorial donation is sometimes a general donation to the VNS and sometimes directed to our Hospice program. When contributing to VNS in a memorial to someone’s memory, the family of the deceased is always informed of the contribution.

Honor Someone:
For those wishing to honor an important person for a special occasion, or to thank a Visiting Nursse Home & Hospice staff member for exceptional service, an honor gift is most welcome and can be directed to any program. The person being honored or thanked is always informed that a gift has been made in their honor.

A bequest, or charitable gift designated in your will, can be a gift that costs you nothing during your lifetime but that benefits others for generations to come. A bequest is easy to make: just a simple phone call to your lawyer can set up a codicil in your will that designates a gift of $1000, $5,000 or even $50,000. It is a great way to insure that the community can continue to depend on Visiting Nurse Home & Hospice in the future for upcoming generations.

The Visiting Nurse Home & Hospice has established a Legacy Society that consists of donors who have set up gifts in their wills. If you would like to join others in the Legacy Society, we would be eager to add you to this loyal group. Legacy Society members will be recognized in our publications, our next Annual Report, and as the important roots of our “Donor Tree” that will soon be established in our Portsmouth headquarters lobby.

To sustain operations and capitalize the organization, the Visiting Nurse Home & Hospice seeks to grow the endowment. Larger gifts and all bequests are added to the endowment fund unless otherwise designated.

Special Events:
Fundraising events are listed on the calendar and in the Gallery of Events.
