Community Health is a central part of the Visiting Nurse Home & Hospice mission. Our commitment to community health covers wellness programs, community flu clinics, adult blood pressure clinics, support groups (diabetes, Alzheimer’s, and bereavement), health research, community partnerships, and governmental lobbying for home health initiatives.
Visiting Nurse Services provides Wellness Clinics at 27 public sites in Newport, Middletown, Portsmouth, Prudence Island, Tiverton, Bristol, Barrington, and Warren. Check our listings of Wellness Clinics for locations, days and times at the bottom of this page.
Wellness clinics offer blood pressure screenings along with other vital signs and periodic cholesterol and glucose screenings. Our nurses can also relay general health information, review medications, and answer health-related questions.

Aging in Place
The “Aging in Place” initiative is a community needs assessment studying quality of life issues along various parameters for seniors living in the Newport County region. In 2011, in partnership with the Edward King House, Child & Family, the Housing Authority of the City of Newport, Newport Partnership for Families, John Matson Consulting, and Newport County Chamber of Commerce, Visiting Nurse Home & Hospice took the lead in securing funding from the Newport County Fund of the Rhode Island Foundation and the Rhode Island Department of Health to conduct a study through surveys, focus groups, and key informant interviews of 550 seniors over 65 years old and approaching seniors 50-64 years old.
The needs assessment is the first step toward the objective that Newport County be a model community that supports aging in place with coordinated, cost-effective, and excellent client-centered services for elders and their families.
This is the data presentation of survey findings from the Aging in Place study of seniors in Newport County. Click here
